VIRAL VENTURES

The Chaos Machine Chapter #12
I chose to circle back to one of my pieces I made for the second reading reflection and recreate it, hopefully with an even stronger message. Just feeling all consumed by social media and phones. It truly does feel like there is no control in our lives anymore, and I want to make an effort to change that. Sorry, Dr. Jae, this is a long one. I had a lot on my mind with this. Really, I had no idea what social media and algorithms in digital spaces were doing, uprooting whole c

The Chaos Machine Chapter #11
I call this the digital chaos spiderweb, representing the digital platforms that somehow connect one topic to the next, and so on, driving viewers into a network of extremist videos and content that traps people in it. The idea that metrics and incentives for viewership and likes on digital platforms might be creating a structural bias towards extremism is no longer just an idea. YouTube, as an example platform, recommends gateway videos for mothers concerned about the healt

1. The Digital Wellness Contradiction: Fisher describes how Silicon Valley's "time well spent" movement allowed companies to rebrand themselves as champions of digital wellness while continuing to refine the same engagement-maximizing technologies that created the problems they claimed to address. Critically analyze this response in terms of both corporate ethics and effective solutions. Is this simply corporate hypocrisy, or does it reveal deeper contradictions in Silicon Va

Digital Nihilism & Desensitization — How can systematic desensitization online transform rhetoric into real-world violence? Any historical parallels? At some point viewing acts of violence or participating in violent speech online will eventually seep through the cracks into the real world. The more people are fed violence and incentives to take action online, especially if it is consistent everyday use, combined with the human nature for moral outrage, people will act. From

(Improving my PhotoShop skills) It becomes risky when brands start to take full control of influencer content because then it might as well just be a an advertisement from the brand itself. It looses the authenticity of the person or influencer behind it. The purpose of the influencer is to connect with their following base that would align best with whatever product is being sold and can continue to connect with that influencer. Someone should want to buy the product being s

Gary Vee provides many examples of content, the ones that resonated with me the most were mascots and content with multiple actions at once. I think multiple actions at once are great for viewership engagement based on my own personal interactions with social media, and mascots are fun to me. After going through Team Yellows social medias, theres a lot that can be worked on. Number one they need a Tik Tok and they need better clarification between the three accounts, Team Ye

Businesses that post content solely focusing on trends in an attempt to go viral, without showcasing their offerings to consumers, often get lost in the vast sea of mass-produced content on social media. That's why posting with a strategic view in mind can help increase a business's visibility. Posting every other day or creating a specific day of the week for a special segment, and maintaining this consistency. That is one example of a strategy a business or brand can utiliz

DTA : On page 76, the author states that 3 in 4 TV-owning households have smart TVs. How do you typically watch content, and how does the device (mobile vs. TV) affect your perception of ads? I typically watch long-form content, such as movies or YouTube videos, on my computer. I don't watch TV, so I don't get ads from streaming services or from cable. Most ads come from YouTube or while scrolling through Instagram. If they are from YouTube, I don't pay much attention to them

DTA & THE CHAOSE MACHINE, Reading Reflection #3
Currently, financial interests have heavily outweighed ethics in shaping social media, which is a key reason why society is attached to their socials like a toxic relationship. Ethics should play a much larger role in the adaptations of these platforms, but I question whether it is even possible for companies behind these platforms to give up 5% of their profits for ethics. There have been plenty of opportunities for ethics to be taken seriously in Silicon Valley, 20 years' w

I made the following piece in refrence to content and being stuck in bubbles of content loop. How your attention gets sucked into one thing and then the next and easily could paralize a person for hours in online forums. Social media can be an all-consuming machine, taking over our lives. Interest Graph: algorithms are formulated based on user activity, interests, and engagement with posts. Programs began to recognize that emotions, such as fear, rage, and heightened joy, bec

I BELIEVE IN THE OCEAN AND THE WIND THEY PROTECT US AND WE NEED TO LIVE LIFE IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE OCEAN. WE NEED TO BE FLUID LIKE THE WAVES, TO LET WHAT EVER COMES TO US MOVE THROUGH US AS EVERYTHING PASSES AND NOTHING IS NOT MOVING.

Day trading attetion is a play on the finance day traders, and the new economy of social media and profiting from gaining viewership attention and how I made this piece after feeling lost in my mind and learning so much about myself from reading this first chapter of the chaos machine. I find that when I am stressed i reach for my phone and don't even know why. Now I understand but also feel so weighed down by this brick i use everyday and could not live life with out. These
