DTA & THE CHAOS MACHINE Reading Reflection #6

ree

Businesses that post content solely focusing on trends in an attempt to go viral, without showcasing their offerings to consumers, often get lost in the vast sea of mass-produced content on social media. That's why posting with a strategic view in mind can help increase a business's visibility. Posting every other day or creating a specific day of the week for a special segment, and maintaining this consistency. That is one example of a strategy a business or brand can utilize to gain a following. A real-life example is the artist RAYE and the social media rollout for her new single and music video. The consistent theme of colors and pushing content on all platforms has worked in her favor, giving the already catchy song huge popularity.

Moral emotional language evokes strong emotional responses, and because algorithms utilize and push posts with moral emotional language, that language becomes a part of mainstream everyday use. As government and politics have become increasingly influenced by social media, the language used by politicians to reach the general public reflects the influence of algorithmic choices that consistently prioritize moral and emotional content. Circling back to that mainstream everyday use, when government leaders/politicians use this language and media outlets report on them, that same moral, emotional language is reported back to the general public. Evoking those same high emotional responses in people and causing more panic in everyday lives

The work showcased above is in place to represent the sea of content on the internet and what get lost because it is not favored by the algorithm.
