Reflection # 2
What are 2 key takeaways from the reading?
What does the quote " life doesn't start after obstacles; life is obstacles" mean to you? Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?
The quote " life doesn't start after obstacles; life is obstacles" is like a reminder to me. I feel like my mom said this to me a few years ago after a really bad car accident. I was 18 and just graduated from high school around three days before. I remember her saying shit happens, life is just how you handle it. Pretty much live by that now.
2 - “Make the charitable assumption.”
This principle is presented as an alternative to an instinctive managerial response.
What reaction does this idea interrupt, and what specific question replaces it?
How could adopting this approach influence how you handle mistakes or tension in your early career?
"Making the charitable assumption" interprets the traditional managerial response of discipline, which often comes in the form of shame and embarrassment over minute details in the grand scheme of life. A curt response or being late to the office. Making the charitable assumption as a manager takes away the selfish response. That overt upset makes the situation about you, even though your employee may have lost a loved one. Approaching with a calm response makes you approachable and the environment of work a place of ease for everyone.
Making the charitable assumption was engrainned in me a long time ago and I often try to keep it in my mind when im with anyone just life in general
