In rule #53, the author talks about Luck. There is a saying that goe,s "luck is when opportunity meets preparation." How would you define luck, and does rule #53 resonate with you? Why or why not?
Luck simply does not exist.
Everything you interact with is because of you. I don't believe in luck or the unluck. Those are perceptions of life. Being lucky is not the same as being privileged, and being unlucky is an excuse to look poorly on things that have happened, or to avoid confronting responsibility. Unaware people utilize lucky and unlucky.
Finding the Third Option — Beyond Winning
In the charger debate, one leader believes chargers are unnecessary. The other believes they are essential. Instead of one side winning, they design a new charger that serves a functional purpose (holding the amuse-bouche), satisfying both aesthetics and hospitality.
Describe a hypothetical disagreement your team could face and outline how you would intentionally move toward a third option instead of a winner.
Hypothetically, the team lacks the communicative skills to understand how each person will react in group ideation and strategy meetings. When the group argues more than listens, something is wrong, especially when they are missing a key element of the plan.
Suggestion: the client meetings are over Zoom, so request that we record the Zoom to be able to look back and decipher what the client wants. That way, there is less confusion over remembering it if we missed something in our notes.
If one person is speaking for everyone, we should make sure they have what they need in time before the meeting and that the team has full faith that they have prepared. Having a team that is confident and supports you makes speaking confidently come easily and gives you a more professional feel when working with clients.
This means communicating by listening and listening with empathy and kindness.
Stopping arguing for a second to hear each other out and try to create something that incorporates what each person cares about.
