When his goal was just in reach, Santiago realized that the journey is as important, if not more, than the end goal. He sees that his personal legend was not to obtain physical treasures, but the journey he took to get them. And everything he learned about himself and the world along the way became treasures in their own right.
I chose to draw the life cycle of a butterfly because, in a way, it has its own legend. To be a caterpillar, and to adapt and grow into a beautiful butterfly, and then head on its migration. I wanted to create this because a butterfly's life cycle represents pursuing a personal legend, one that helps you grow and adapt in the world around you. When one legend is completed, gaining the ability of flight, a new one begins, starting a migration south. One small creature can perfectly represent the theme of transformation and growth within the Alchemist.
